ELMEC Handels- en Ingenieursbureau from Belfeld has been the specialist in internal transport and drive technology for 50 years next year. The company was founded in 1972 by Herman Langen, the father of the current director Rob Langen. In 1975 Rob started as a young employee and student Mechanical Engineering at ELMEC. Together with his father they started to shape ELMEC and let it grow into the beautiful company it is today. In 1989 the company was completely taken over by Rob.
It will be clear that continuity is an important aspect for a company. There is a responsibility towards colleagues and their families, but also towards other stakeholders. A few years ago, the Langen family started a conversation with the third generation to discover whether a takeover could be possible in the future.
Just under two years ago, after much thought, consideration and consultation, the joint decision was taken not to follow up on this. That brought the next challenge; redesigning a step that can guarantee ELMEC's continuity.
Over the past eighteen months, the Langen family has been intensively involved in all the preparations and this has recently led to a partial takeover of the shares of ELMEC Handels- en Ingenieursbureau. Two entrepreneurial families from Limburg, including the Beelen family from Meterik through Rooth-Invest, have been found willing to participate in ELMEC. Both new shareholders are not going to interfere with the company in a practical sense. They believe that it is better to have a well-functioning company like ELMEC continue to function in the same way that ELMEC has proven to be successful for years.
The Langen family will also continue to hold part of the shares in ELMEC. They are very happy with this takeover and also find it reassuring that the continuity of Elmec will be assured. Rob will continue his work at ELMEC for the next three years and nothing will change in the short term. In the coming period, the parties involved will jointly look for a skilled successor so that Rob can hand over the management in a good and calm manner in the coming years.
